Initially launched as a social microfinance project under Entrepreneurs du Monde (EdM)—a French international non-governmental organization (INGO) founded in 1998—Sont Oo Tehtwin was formally registered as a microfinance company in 2022. Despite its transition from an NGO project to a corporate entity, the company remains steadfast in its commitment to social impact, adhering to the principles and objectives set by its mother organization.

Operating in the townships of Dala, Seikkyi Kanaungto, Twante, Kawt Hmoo, and KunGyanGone, Sont Oo Tehtwin provides inclusive financial services tailored to the needs of underserved populations, particularly women and small-scale entrepreneurs.
